What is diabetes?

Diabetes is an illness of the body. A body sick with diabetes cannot deal with sugar. The sugar goes up and down. That causes a lot of trouble. A person with diabetes feels tired all the time. This person also is passing a lot of urine.

After some time a person with diabetes may become blind. Diabetes also causes kidney problems. A person with a kidney problem may need an expensive treatment called dialysis. Kidney problems may cause the person to smell urine all the time.

Other symptoms include:
  • Being excessively thirsty.
  • Passing more urine.
  • Feeling tired and lethargic.
  • Always feeling hungry.
  • Having cuts that heal slowly.
  • Itching, skin infections.
  • Blurred vision.
  • Impotence in men
  • Gradually putting on weight.

It is important for everyone over 40 to see a GP for a quick blood test. If you find out that you have diabetes early – you can better deal with it. You may start doing the right things and not get complications.
